Its times like these that I am gratefull I can't trade on Margin in my RSP's.

True!  Though I swore off margin after 2000.

Are you buying more of anything in the portfolios? If so what?

I'm actually not actively buying the picks for a variety of reasons but I'm still watching.  I am long some stocks that are familiar to SSP followers: TCM, TRE, VNX, POT, RBI, AVM.

why are your trading equities in your RSP? gains are only 50% taxable outside an RSP but taxed fully within...??

This is my first post as a newbie, so please excuse me if it doesn't come out right as I am about.... to .... push...........the ..............post........button......

I can think of several reasons:
1)  The money is only taxed on withdrawal...the time value of money exceeds the doubling of the tax rate.
2)  If Revenue Canada declares you a 'trader' (deriving most or all of your income from stock trading) then your stock trades are taxed at income (not capital gain) rates.

Still with riskier items such as momentum picks and options it is better to be done outside the RSPs and leave the blue chip and bond pics for inside.

Thank you DCA,
That is some "good food" for thought.
